DOH Bicol, LGU Legazpi signs MOA for lab machines

The Department of Health Center for Health Development (DOH CHD) – Bicol and the Local Government Unit (LGU) of Legazpi City signed the Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) today, June 5, 2020, for the Automated Extraction Machine, and the two (2) Real Time Polymerase Chain Reaction (RT-PCR) machines purchased by the LGU Legazpi.

Vera expressed his gratitude to Mayor Noel Rosal, the City Government of Legazpi and the donors for the initiative to donate 9.7 million worth of laboratory equipment that will improve the testing capacity not only for the City but for the whole Bicol Region.

Since the LGU has no laboratory accredited to test samples for the presence of COVID-19 virus, the DOH CHD- Bicol shall provide for a space inside the Bicol Regional Diagnostic and Reference Laboratory (BRDRL) where the machines shall be kept and operated.
The CHD shall likewise be responsible for its operation and maintenance. Testing as well as the processing of test results from the machines shall be done by the trained personnel of BRDRL. The ownership of the said machines shall be retained by the LGU all throughout the duration of the agreement.”

The molecular laboratory will now be able to test 380 to 420 samples a day using automated extraction machine and the three (3) PCR machines.
