Dengue cases down by 72% in the Bicol Region

The Department of Health – Center for Health Development (DOH-CHD) Bicol’s Regional Epidemiology and Surveillance Unit (RESU) noted 1, 271 dengue cases from January to August 1, 2020 (Morbidity Week 31). This is a 72% decrease as compared to the same period in 2019 (N=4,596). There were 12 deaths (case fatality ratio of 1%) reported for the said period this year as compared to 48 deaths in the same period last year.
 
The province of Camarines Sur records the highest number of dengue cases in the Region with 612 cases and 3 deaths, followed by Sorsogon with 241 cases and 3 deaths, Camarines Norte with 153 cases and 2 deaths, Albay with 112 cases and 4 deaths, Masbate with 110 cases, Catanduanes with 39 cases. There were four (4) cases reported who were from other regions.
 
Preventing cases from escalating is a primary concern. The DOH-CHD Bicol urges all Bicolanos to follow the 4S, which means Search and Destroy, Self-Protection Measures, Seek Early Consultation, and Say Yes to fogging when there is an impending outbreak.
