Media Kapihan: Tackle pressing and timely health concerns for the month of NovemberTo tackle pressing and timely health concerns for the month of November, the DOH CHD Bicol through the Health Promotion Unit held its Media Kapihan (Press Conference) at La Roca Veranda Suites, November 6, 2019.
Prematurity and Drugs were discussed during the Press Con in line with the Observance of World Prematurity Day on November 17, 2019, and the Drug Prevention and Control Week on the 3rd week of November.
Universal Health Care and its IRR, along with APIR (Aksyon: Paputok Injury Reduction Campaign), Safe Toys for the Holidays, and updates on Polio were also tackled during the Media Kapihan.

 

DOH Bicol starts Campaign on Zero Firecrackers Injury for 2020

As the Holiday Season is fast approaching, the Department of Health Center for Health Development – Bicol reminds the public of the danger of fire crackers, and seeks to encourage revelers, especially children, to totally avoid buying and lighting dangerous firecrackers.
 
In last year’s celebration – from December 21, 2018 to January 5, 2019 – DOH CHD Bicol recorded a total of 24 fireworks-related injuries for the whole region. Camarines Sur – 9 cases were recorded, Albay – 8, Camarines Norte – 3, Masbate 2, Sorsogon – 1, and Catanduanes – 1, with no reported deaths.
 
Among the 24 cases of fireworks-related injuries, 20 were reported to have Blast/Burnt with no amputation, 2 for eye injury, 1 for Watusi Ingestion, and 1 for Blast/Burnt with amputation.

Month of Overseas Filipinos Regional Migrant FairTo show support and love to the Filipinos who work abroad, enduring years apart from their families just to give them a comfortable life, an event entitled Month of Overseas Filipinos Regional Migrant Fair with a theme "OFs Ngayon, Balik-Pinas Bukas" was held at Bibincahan Gymnasium, Sorsogon City, Sorsogon.

The Department of Health Center for Health Development - Bicol gave a promotion of health services for migrants during the event held October 25, 2019.

DOH CHD Bicol spearheaded the zumba/hataw exercise and provided t-shirts for the organizers and the participants. Flyers and other IEC materials on health were also distributed to the migrants family.

During the event, raffle draw were also done, and tokens were also given to partner agenciest.

 

Prevent Preterm Birth: Care during Pregnancy is a Must! - DOH Bicol

In line with the observance of the World Prematurity Day every 17thof November each year, the Department of Health Center for Health Development - Bicol encourages all pregnant women and soon-to-be moms to take care of themselves during pregnancy to prevent premature birth.

According to the World Health Organization (WHO), approximately 15 million babies are born preterm each year, accounting for about one (1) in ten (10) of all babies born worldwide, and over 1 million children die each year due to complications of preterm birth.

Despite continuing advances in the medical treatment of preemies, babies born early has higher mortality rate than babies born on time. Premature babies are also at a greater risk of having disorders and diseases, and might face a lifetime of disability and health problems that affect the brain, the lungs, hearing or vision that is why according to WHO, many survivors have learning disabilities, visual and hearing problems.

DOH Bicol may Paalala sa Pagdiriwang ng Undas

Ang Department of Health Center for Health Development - Bicol ay nais ipaalala sa lahat nang Bikolano ang mga dapat gawin para sa ligtas na undas at kapistahan ng Todos los Santos, Araw ng Lahat ng mga Santo(All Saint’s Day) at Araw ng mga Kaluluwa (All Soul’s Day) na ipagdiriwang sa ika-1 at ika-2 ng Nobyembre.

Ang Undas ay isang tradisyon na paggunita sa Pilipinas upang magbigay galang at pugay sa mga yumaong kamag-anak. Ito rin ay isang pagkakataon na magkakatipon-tipon ang pamilya kung kaya’t mahalaga na salubungin ito ng malusog at ligtas.

Ang mga sakit na maaring makuha sa panahon ng Undas ay ang Food and Waterborne illnesses kabilang na dito ang pagtatae, pananakit ng tiyan, food poisoning at cholera. Dahil sa matao ang sementeryo pag Undas, maari rin na mahawaan ng sipon at ubo o flu. Ang hypertension, heat stroke, animal bites, mosquito-borne diseases, leptospirosis ay kabilang sa mga sakit na nagbibigay panganib sa panahon ng Undas.
