DOH Bicol reports 2 new cases, 1 death

The Department of Health Center for Health Development - Bicol records two (2) new confirmed cases today bringing the total number of recorded COVID-19 positive in Bicol Region to thirteen (13).
A 66- year old Filipino male is the 12th confirmed case recorded in Bicol Region. He was admitted at the Bicol Medical Center midnight of April 2. Said patient died a few hours later on April 3, 2020. He was cremated immediately as a safety precaution. The test result confirming he was positive for COVID-19 was validated today. Patient#12 is the first (1st) COVID -19 death in Bicol Region.

BRDRL Certified, Can Start COVID-19 Testing

The Bicol Regional Diagnostic and Reference Laboratory (BRDRL) received its certification from the Research Institute of Tropical Medicine (RITM) yesterday, after passing the proficiency testing for COVID-19. The molecular laboratory can now perform independent testing for COVID-19 (SARS-CoV-2) by real time Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR).
This means that instead of bringing patient samples from Bicol hospitals to the RITM, these samples will now be processed at the BRDRL. This will shorten the waiting time for laboratory results of COVID 19 patients. The standard turn-around time of results is within 48 hours. Testing capacity is 30 samples per day given that the laboratory has only one PCR machine.

The Department of Health Center for Health Development Bicol (DOH CHD) – Bicol reports that two more COVID cases tested negative for COVID 19. They are patients with local ID number Bicol#8, a 65 years old Filipino male, and Bicol #9, a 40 years old Filipino male, both from Albay. Thus, total recoveries is placed at 4. The remaining 7 patients are awaiting test results.
For the Persons Under Investigation(PUIs), twelve (12) PUIs were added to the list bringing the number of PUIs with pending results to 18.
As of 5PM of April 4, 2020, current confirmed cases in Bicol Region is nine (9), however eight (8) new Persons Under Investigation (PUIs) were recorded. The swab sample of 1 PUI from Catanduanes reported yesterday was already taken. PUIs with pending result in Bicol Region is now at sixteen (16).
The public is urged to strictly follow home quarantine procedures. Please stay at home and do not go out unless needed.
As Dr. Beverly Ho, Special Assistant to the Secretary for Health, said, "There are two fronts into this war, your homes in the community and the hospitals. We have more than 1000 hospitals in the country but over 20 million homes or households. We will have a better chance of winning this if 20 million households will do their part."
Health Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire also asked for the cooperation of everyone and noted the important role of the public in fighting COVID-19.
"Patuloy parin po ang ating laban para siguraduhin ang kaligtasan at kalusugan ng bawat Pilipino. Manalig po tayo na sa ating pagtutulungan, ating pong malalagpasan ang sitwasyon na ito... Tulad po ng nabanggit kahapon, nakadepende po ang bansa natin saating lahat. Tayo po ang mga frontliners din sa laban na ito, ang health system po ay ating second line of defense na sasalo po saatin sa mga nagkaroon ng COVID-19" USEC said.
