DOH CHD – Bicol Regional Director Dr. Ernie V. Vera, together with Dr. Jannish Alcala-Arellano, and Mr. Norberto Balane Jr., visited the Bicol Regional Diagnostic and Reference Laboratory (BRDRL) today to personally check the facilities and equipment that will be used for COVID-19 testing.
Continuous preparation is currently being done to ensure the safety of the medical technologists, and technical staff who will be working at the COVID-19 testing laboratory. Proper isolation of facilities for COVID-19 is appropriately managed so that other laboratories in BRDRL such as blood services, TB testing, dengue laboratory, and others shall still operate.
Guidelines are being prepared as to how the testing will be conducted. DOH CHD – Bicol is fast tracking preparations so we can start operations once the structures are ready, guidelines prepared, staff trained, testing kits complete and the necessary ppes to protect our health workers and supplies are available.
The preparation for BRDRL to be a subnational laboratory is critical for both the facility and the staff due to a fact that highly contagious samples are involved in testing that is why it is being managed carefully.
Dr. Alan Lucañas and Ms. Maria Cecilia Pan guided RD Vera, Dr. Arellano and Mr. Balane during the facility visit.
COVID-19 facilities were also blessed today by Fr. Francis Binaya.
As of 12NN today (March 26, 2020), the Department of Health reports 71 new cases (PH637-PH707) of COVID-19 which brings the total number of cases in the country to 707.

DOH CHD - Bicol would also like to clear that the PCOO map shows the confirmed cases PER LISTED RESIDENCE.
